Microsoft’s AI Copilot for Security launches next month with pay-as-you-go pricing

  • Microsoft is set to launch its Copilot for Security next month, introducing a generative AI chatbot aimed at enhancing cybersecurity. Unlike the one-off monthly charge model used for Copilot for Microsoft 365, Copilot for Security will employ a consumption model, charging businesses $4 per hour of use. The service, which leverages OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Microsoft’s own security-specific model, is designed to aid cybersecurity professionals by providing up-to-date information on security incidents, threat summaries, and more. The tool, which started testing nearly a year ago, gives users access to the latest security threats and leverages Microsoft’s vast data on daily security signals. It includes a pinboard for collaboration among cybersecurity employees and features for summarizing events for reports. Users can interact with the chatbot using natural language, input files for analysis, or even request code analysis, with all prompts saved for later auditing.

The pay-as-you-go pricing model aims to make it easier for businesses to scale their AI-powered cybersecurity efforts without upfront costs. This move comes as Microsoft faces attacks from Russian state-sponsored hackers, with incidents such as the SolarWinds attack highlighting vulnerabilities in its systems. Microsoft is currently overhauling its software security, following significant breaches in its Azure cloud and Exchange Server in recent years.
